HOW TO BE CONSISTENT? CHECK THESE TIPS!

Be consistent and win! Consistency is the key to success. At work, in school, or in workouts, and in whatever you want to achieve. We all struggle with laziness sometimes. Being consistent is not easy, but you can learn it. Check tips on how to be consistent and improve your life with it!


If I were to choose one thing that guarantees success, it would be consistency. You can have a lot of money, the best education, and strong motivation, but you won’t be able to build anything without consistency. 

Marie Forleo, an entrepreneur and writer said something very obvious but it hit me strongly.

‚Success doesn’t come from what you do occasionally, it comes from what you do consistently.’

✦Two basic things you need to be consistent:✦

➤ 1. Make a plan 

For instance, you have an idea to learn a new language. And you feel some excitement! New language skill is a new opportunity, fantastic! A few days pass, and you are still thinking about learning the language and … just thinking. Is a common situation. Most often, because you don’t know what exactly you should do and where to start! The plan is essential to be consistent. You cannot drive to an unknown destination without a plan and map, right? 

You don’t have to be a planner master. Start from:

● Just think about how you can achieve this goal. Write it down your ideas.

● Then do research. 

● Define tasks (for example ‚Book the first language lesson in Monday’). 

Start by setting your daily steps for one week. Do it and repeat it next week. Make changes slowly and gradually.

➤ 2. Take action

Book the first language lesson on Monday’ – you wrote this on your calendar. But you have to really call to language school on Monday and book the lesson. Not on Tuesday or Wednesday! You planned to call on Monday so you have to take action with your plan and do it on Monday.

The plan itself, without taking any action to implement it, is worthless. Train yourself to get things done. And yes, taking action is hard, uncomfortable, and painful sometimes. But if you want to achieve something, you have to work. Only by taking action, you will see results.

➤ Tips

✦Let go of all-or-nothing mentality✦

You decided to be more consistent. Amazing! But unfortunately, if you haven’t been a consistent person so far, it will be difficult for you to become overnight. 

For example, you will start eating healthy. Your diet will be perfect for the first five days, but on the weekend you will go to a friend’s birthday party and eat cake, pizza, and drink some champagne. You broke your diet, that true. But is not mean, that you should quit all process because you enjoyed the party. You can back to your healthy diet the next day and everything will be fine. Ups and downs are normal, especially at the beginning.

The all-or-nothing mentality is a success killer! You are human, not a robot. Fails are obvious things. Just back to your right way and don’t give up. 

✦Keep the process as long as you can✦

You know that fails are possible on your path. But when you start to work on something try to keep the process as long as you can.

What is mean? 

If your diet is clean, try to keep it as long as you can. Every day you practice healthy habit, and you develop consistency as well. There is a danger that if you break your diet at the birthday party, it will be much harder for you to return to eating healthy the next day. You can feel the desire to take a longer break and as a result, quit all. 

Let go of the all-or-nothing mentality, but try will do your best as well. You don’t need to be on a clean diet 365 days a year, but if you want to see results, keep your job as long as possible.

✦Done is better than perfect✦ 

Consistent work is a small, everyday action leading to the achievement of the goal. Fear of failure sometimes causes you to try to prepare yourself perfectly for your job instead of doing your job.

As you can see, English is not my mother language. I’m not a native speaker. If you will back to my older post, you will see that I started the Style Of Boss blog in the polish language. But I always wanted to increase my site for an international audience. For almost one year I thought to write in English. But I knew it, my skills are not perfect. And this stopped me for a long time! One day I decided I will do it, no matter of my current skills. And now, I work consistently on my blog. Even if my posts are not perfect, I have an international audience and the Style Of Boss is growing and giving valuable content. If I kept waiting for my skills to be perfect, I would never even start!

Don’t wait. Just start now. With all, you have now. Don’t wait for perfect timing, because it not exist. Consistent work will give you experience. And the experience will give you the knowledge and boost your skills. 

✦Track progress✦

Record what you do and when. Check your progress. Even if they are small. It helps you see meaning in what you are doing. Reward yourself for your successes.

✦What you will lose when you don’t do it?✦

As you know, being consistent is difficult. For sure it will be moments when you will lose your motivation and energy. 

How to deal with the crisis then? 

Instead of thinking about what you will gain once you achieve your goal, think about what will happen if you don’t reach it and give up? If you will not work consistently on your own business, you will have to go back to a full-time job. If you do not stop smoke, you will lose your health. And much more examples! 

The fear of losing something is a much stronger motivator to work than the vision of having more than you have now.

And remember. Consistent work and pursuit of goals will always pay off. Be persistent and sooner or later you will be in the place you dream about. I wish you this!
